Weeks after cyclone Nargis hit Burma’s Irrawaddy delta, claiming 133,000 lives and leaving millions homeless, the country’s military junta is still reluctant to let foreign relief workers in.

In a recent trip, the FT’s Andrew Jack found ordinary citizens were taking up the task of providing relief to the regions worst affected, while survivors were struggling to hang on until help reaches them.
