The long anticipated prisoner exchange between Israel and Hizbollah was greeted by jubilant celebrations in Beirut but marked by a sombre mood in Israel.

The Shia group Hizbollah celebrated the handover as an important victory and it was celebrated across Lebanon and marked by a national holiday. A spokesman for Michel Suleiman, Lebanon’s president, described the celebrations as a “national day”.
